In respect of shareholder agreements, the firm’s litigation support services, often sees situations where the buy-sell clauses are ineffective, inadequate or otherwise problematic. Boyd Mowbrey Gil can work with the shareholders, lawyers and other advisors to help ensure that the buy-sell clauses in a shareholders' agreement are workable. The partners are often engaged by lawyers to assist with litigation matters and to provide an expert report in a dispute situation. In many cases these reports can involve a business valuation (shareholder disputes, dissenting shareholder action, divorces-matrimonial property.) In other cases they involve the quantification of losses incurred or damages due to business interruption, breach of contract, negligence, or other actions. Boyd Mowbrey Gil is also involved in the field of investigative and forensic accounting. These engagements typically involve investigation regarding hidden assets, misappropriation of assets or fraud. John Boyd joined the firm in March, 2002. John is the practice leader of the business valuation and litigation consulting group - Boyd Mowbrey Gil Valuation Consultants Inc. John received his Chartered Business Valuator designation in 1985 and has been practicing in the field of business valuations and litigation support since 1980. He started in this field while a manager at a large international accounting firm. This field represents approximately 75% of his current practice. John has been qualified at the Courts of Queen’s Bench of both Alberta and Saskatchewan as an expert in the areas of accounting, business valuation, and quantification of business losses on several occasions.
